Working With Students
At the heart of what we do at Northcroft School is to hear students' voices, securing them their desired outcomes and offering them opportunities to thrive within education and as a member of the community.
Each student participates in a weekly timetabled session with their designated professional parent. These sessions provide structured opportunities for reflection, enabling students to review their week, share both challenges and successes, and engage in positive relational experiences, such as preparing a hot drink together. Students are consistently encouraged to recognise personal achievements, as well as to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of their peers and staff.
Professional parent sessions are closely aligned with the weekly Celebrations Assembly, during which students are able to share “Proud clouds” and offer “proud clouds” to members of the school community.
Student voice is further embedded across the school through a range of mechanisms. Subject teachers design and implement student surveys to gather feedback on engagement and attitudes towards learning, ensuring teaching approaches remain responsive to student needs. In addition, professional parents support their students in completing wellbeing surveys each term and in identifying two personal development targets. Progress towards these targets is monitored collaboratively through weekly review sessions.
