Our Families
Our approach has a strong focus on hearing family voice and creating a community for both students and their families .
The essence of our approach is to listen to students and families on the issues of importance to them on their journeys through school. As part of this, we take great care to match each student and family with a professional parent to be their ‘go-to’ person who will advocate for them.
We believe the best outcomes are achieved when the school and families work closely together.
This is backed up by research which says that schools should consider students as interconnected parts of their family. So direct support for families starts during the admissions process, which we know can be complex, lengthy, emotional and sometimes financially draining.
This is also why the school has decided to embed its thrive model and our personal development curriculum has a strong focus on hearing family voice on the issues of importance to them and that impact on families Quality of Life.
This includes helping families to do some of the things that many take for granted, such as sitting down for a family meal together, inviting friends to the house, going into town or even on holiday. We encourage family voice and listen to the concerns of families though a number of channels, including weekly communication with the professional parent which every child has within the school and the end-of-term surveys.
This is why the professional parent while your child is in school is at the heart of everything we do and why we invest so much time and effort in it. It ensures that we have shared agreement and expectations on the 3 ‘areas of focus’ each term for our students and how we can have a joined-up approach between home and school using our thrive model and action plan.
